    Spirits or liquors like vodka,
tequila, rum, gin, brandy, and whiskey can be left out at room
temperature, or chilled depending on personal preference,
according to beverage expert Anthony Caporale.

    White wine, champagne, beer,
and cider should all be chilled in the refrigerator prior to
    consumption, per Caporale.

    There are two main categories
of beverage alcohols: fermented and distilled, according to
    Caporale.

The alcohol industry is a billion
  dollar business in the US.
  According to the Distilled
Spirits Council's sales report released in Feb. 2018, supplier sales toppled
out at $26.2 billion in 2017 - that's up to $1 billion more from
the previous year. Given that people are spending so generously
on booze, it begs the question, "Are people storing their alcohol
  properly?"

Some spirits are meant to be left
out in your liquor cabinet, while other types of alcohol are
better off left to chill in your refrigerator. Anthony Caporale,
  beverage expert, and
  director of Spirits Education at
Institute of Culinary Education's New York
  campus, told INSIDER
it's important to understand the difference between fermented
beverages and distilled beverages before your next trip to the
  liquor store.

"There are two main categories of
beverage alcohols: fermented and distilled. Fermented beverages,
like wine, cider, beer, and mead - also known as honey wine - are
a one-step process. This means they you add yeast to a sugar
solution and get a fermented beverage, usually with low alcohol
content," said Caporale. "If you take a fermented beverage and
put it in a still, that will give you a spirit or liquor that's a
distilled beverage and those typically have a higher alcohol
  content."

  Fermented beverages are best kept
in the fridge, while distilled drinks can be left out. There are
a few exceptions to the rules.

Here are the 10 types of alcohol
you should keep in the fridge before you pour your next
  drink.

  • The Daily Meal walks into a bar and — we peruse the menu, the clientele, and the drinks list; we scrutinize the drink, the place, the vibe; we take mental notes. Then we decide to grab a wad of cocktail napkins and start scribbling notes for a list like this, which we’ve been compiling annually since 2011.Choosing a bar is a personal matter, and just as every person is unique, so is each bar. Sure, there are plenty of cookie-cutter Irish pubs, tacky tourist joints with sticky-sweet frozen drinks, and lackluster lounges with watered-down booze, but there are thousands of wonderful drinking places across the United States, too. From simple beach bars and swanky cocktail lounges to innovative houses of "molecular" mixology to dusty dive bars and dens of iniquity, there’s a bar for everyone. Bars are ubiquitous and unifying. They are the great socioeconomic equalizer: Nearly anyone of legal age can enter a bar, pull up a stool and buy him- or herself a refreshing glass of liquid luxury in its many forms: from a budget ice-cold brew to a fine wine to a potent shot to a classic cocktail to a spectacular modernist creation. Bars are relatable and welcoming; they are a comfort to many in good times and bad.Whether you like it neat, dirty, on the rocks, up, with a twist, shaken, or stirred, there’s a watering hole on this list that’ll have your whistle wet in no time. So pull up a stool, tip your bartender, and check out our annual ranking of the 150 best bars in America for 2019.For the full methodology, please click here.

With hundreds of distilleries across it's regions, the diverse landscape offer an array of flavors and textures and have created some of the premier brands in the world. Although Scotch is a type of whisky it varies from the American whiskey's such as bourbon. Similar to champagne, Scotch can only be classified as such when the whisky is distilled within the Scottish region and it must be distilled to 94.8 percent alcohol by volume (ABV). • Coffee is incredible. The smell of a fresh pot is intoxicating. The taste of a first sip is sensational. The caffeine buzz is, in most instances, necessary. Could you imagine life without it? Back in the day, thanks to some true fuddy-duddies, some civilizations had to wake up on their own accord. You know, naturally. We’re talking bans on coffee. The first one happened circa 1511 in Mecca, Saudi Arabia because the governor thought it encouraged people to hang out and brainstorm ways to overthrow him. Eventually, the rule was overturned and order was restored. Thank goodness, because that would not fly today. For more fun trivia about the world’s most beloved beverage, here are 17 things you didn’t know about coffee.

  • The unmatched camaraderie of America’s beer industry is both its greatest strength and its greatest weakness: On one hand, shared ideas promote innovation and growth; on the other, trends that spread like wildfire can tire out even the most devoted brew-hounds. For all of the industry’s creativity, Americans are often inundated by beer styles in waves — be it with fruity sour ales, hazy IPAs, or decadent pastry stouts. So it’s no wonder that seasoned drinkers have begun seeking out more exotic flavors found only in far off places. Sure, beer of any category can be made all over the globe by importing hops or malt, but as with wine, terroir — the expression of an origin’s specific climate, soils, and terrain in liquid form — is becoming a greater influence on the beverage than ever before.Nowhere is this felt more than in Japan, where unique ingredients — whether indigenous malt, hops, or adjuncts such as fruit or spices — define many of the country’s best beers. And thanks to America’s unquenchable thirst, more and more of these beers are being exported to the United States.I’ve traveled from northern Iwate all the way down to Ishikawa in search of beers made with special ingredients native to the Pacific island nation, and rounded up the best of those that can also be found in the United States. Take Your Hot Chocolate From Good to Great With These Spiked Hot Cocoa Recipes

While some people love Winter and all the things that come with it (Skiing! Sweaters!), it's also the time of year where the cold makes you want to bundle up, put on a pair of cozy socks, and plop yourself on the couch. Luckily, there's another Winter staple to add to the mix: hot chocolate. Since childhood, the sweet treat is something to enjoy on a cold night or during a snow day. Now that we're all adults here, we can do what we want, and you know what that means? Boozy hot chocolate. Adding vodka, bourbon, or other liqueurs to hot cocoa elevates it to fancy cocktail level without losing its comforting traits. So whether you're snuggling up solo under your blanket, with your sweet pet, or next to the person who makes your heart skip a beat, here are some spiked hot chocolate recipes that you'll want to make all season long.

    It's possible to make
Starbucks' drinks in the comfort of your own home.

Starbucks chai latte is possible to recreate using
    store-bought chai powder.

    To make a
Frappuccino, you'll need coffee, ice, and flavored
    syrup.

Save yourself a hefty chunk of
change this year by making your favorite Starbucks drinks at
home. It's not as difficult as it may seem. Former Starbucks
employee McKenzie Krochmalny revealed how to make similar
versions of your favorite coffee drinks in the comfort of your
own home. All you need is a little bit of patience to perfect
your favorite sip and the dedication to waking up five minutes
earlier to put the coffee on.

"It's not too complicated to make
similar drinks at home," Krochmalny told
  INSIDER.
  "Before I worked at
Starbucks and had no idea how the
drinks were made, I thought it was just magic, but actually the
drinks themselves are pretty simple and have all the same
components: syrup, coffee, steamed milk, whipped cream"

  According to the former barista,
recreating these drinks at home are pretty simple, especially
when you consider that the different drinks are only defined by
which syrup and spices you blend together. Krochmalny noted that
you're able to purchase bottles of your favorite core Starbucks
syrups in the store, which is great news for vanilla, caramel,
and toffee nut fans. Unfortunately, you'll have to look elsewhere
for seasonal syrups like pumpkin spice and gingerbread. "I would
say the seasonal beverages would be worth spending money on since
  Starbucks doesn't sell those syrups."

  Nevertheless, learning to make
versions of your favorite Starbucks drinks at home is not as
  difficult as you may think.

  • The bloody mary's history is much more refined than you might think: It was created at Harry's New York Bar in Paris and then popularized in the U.S. at the St. Regis Hotel in New York in 1933. But its upscale, refined image has long been abandoned for a more popular brunch trend that loads garnishes, sandwiches, seafood, and sometimes entire multi-course meals on top of its glass. Some areas of the country are well-known for embracing the shift, like Wisconsin and Southern California, where you can get an outrageous bloody mary at almost any bar. Other places, like New York City, prefer to update a bloody mary's mix or use a simple but unusual garnish. Either way, you get something like these 26 over-the-top bloodies found across the country.

    Photos

26 over-the-top bloody marys across America

Bloody  marys are a brunch staple, but some U.S. restaurants take the tomato juice and vodka cocktail to outrageous levels. Stacks of garnishes go beyond pickle spears and olives — think burgers, slices of pizza, and fried chicken. Or, alternative liquors and fun spices can make for new twists on the savory classic.

  • Confession: I am a souvenir addict. Whenever I travel anywhere, especially abroad, I become a buying machine. Little animal figurines, beaded bracelets, endless tote bags, hats of all kinds (even though I never actually wear hats)—all of them go into my already-full suitcase until it’s packed so tight that the zipper breaks open and underwear explodes onto the baggage carousel like some kind of very sad firework.
It seems worth it, until I get home. Suddenly all these treasures that seemed so magical back when they were among their brethren—tucked into the stands of brightly colored markets, air thick with the scent of grilled meats—have become, well, what they are: cheap souvenirs. I half-heartedly plan to give them as gifts but forget. They end up on a high shelf collecting dust until one of my cats bats them off and all I’m left with is buyer’s remorse.
But you know what kind of souvenirs I never feel remorseful about? Edible ones. Even better? Drinkable ones. And thus, my latest realization: Whether you plan to give it as a gift, hoard it for yourself, or pretend to buy it as a gift but actually hoard it for yourself, the best and least regrettable souvenir you can buy is a bottle (or two, or five) of local booze. And when you’re in Mexico City, that booze has gotta be mezcal.
Which mezcals should you buy? To answer this question, I consulted Ricardo Mu?oz Zurita: chef, culinary historian, and unofficial “anthropologist of Mexican cuisine” (be sure to check out one of his three Mexico City restaurants, Azul y Oro, for the best tortilla soup you'll ever taste). Zurita had his first sip of mezcal three decades ago, back when Oaxaca was the only place you could find it. But over the past 12 years, he’s developed a fierce passion for the stuff, traveling all over Mexico to find the best bottles.
When I met Zurita in Mexico City, he invited me to his house for—what else?—a mezcal tasting. We sat in his light-soaked living room sipping samples from his enormous collection and chewing on orange slices dipped in worm salt. Zurita spoke encyclopedically about sourcing and techniques and tasting notes, and even gave me a printed booklet of his favorites with star ratings organized by agave type.
So when it came time for me to pick out the bottles to take home, I whipped out my notes and stuck to his advice—which, just because I’m that kind of person, I’ll be sharing here with you. Sure, you can find many of them stateside if you live in a major city (and you can use this guide for that too!), but they’re a helluva lot less expensive if you buy them closer to the source. Read on for your official Zurita-approved CDMX souvenir checklist.

  • If you think cheap white wine is only for grandma's spritzer, think again. As a wine and spirit educator and judge, I've encountered hundreds of wines working with Ultimate Beverage Challenge and selling and purchasing for restaurants and stores. Based on my experience, there's a white wine costing no more than $20 to satisfy almost anyone's palate. At Cheapism, we've spoken with experts and wine vendors, read reviews, and held tastings to round up white wines that achieve a certain level of quality at a low price. Often the trick is to look beyond the chardonnays and pinot grigios to less common varieties of grapes.

  • It's one of the world's most beloved foods - and it deserves the perfect glass of wine to go along with it. Pizza is typically consumed with cheap beer or soda but the right glass of wine can make a simple slice of pizza transcendental in a way beer can't. From red tomato sauce pizzas, white pizzas (pizza bianca), and wild toppings (pineapple to mushrooms to clams) we asked top sommeliers and beverage directors how they would pair classic (and not-so-classic) slices of pizza with the perfect glass of wine.

  • Along with cooler temperatures, pumpkin-spice everything, the arrival of autumn also means new flavor profiles for your drinking repertoire. The sangrias, margarita pitchers, and endless Aperol Spritzes of summer give way to ciders, Oktoberfest beers, and - best of all - brown spirits taking their rightful place in your liquor cabinet. To really optimize the rich, smoky possibilities of your fall cocktail game, you'll want to focus on one spirit in particular: bourbon whiskey. Here, we're bringing you a beginner's guide to bourbon; what it is, when it's good, how to mix it, and how to pair it. And to help guide you on the right path, we enlisted Trey Zoeller, founder and CEO of Jefferson's Bourbon, to provide some valuable words of bourbon wisdom.

  • In certain industries, the biggest brands are so dominant we sometimes forget there's a wider variety of options to choose from. This is surely the case when it comes to soft drinks, with Coca-Cola and Pepsi products typically occupying all the supermarket shelf space and edging out smaller regional soda bottlers. Nonetheless, America still has its fair share of locally distributed sodas worth sampling — you just might have to drive to another part of the country to do so. The following list highlights some of the best regional sodas produced in the U.S., as well as a few other unique flavors found internationally.

44 Unique Sodas You Have to Try — If You Can Find Them

America still has many hometown soda brands that have stayed close to their roots with unique ingredients and flavor combinations. • More and more consumers are realizing that wine doesn't have to be expensive to be good, allowing one-stop shops like Target and Walmart to enter the wine retail game. Aside from convenience, the big stores have buying power to purchase large quantities for a discount and pass the savings on to their customers. As a professional wine judge and Cheapism's resident wine expert, I tasted through all of the house wines from Target and Walmart to see how they stack up and ranked them based on quality using a 3-star system with 3 stars indicating high marks. In general, the Target wines offered the lowest prices, often less than half the cost of Walmart wines of similar quality. In turn, the Walmart wines scored slightly higher across the board. When it comes down to it, both stores offer a lot of value for the price tag by offering solid wines at low prices. • It's almost impossible to define what makes a bar great, but longevity is often an important indicator. To survive and retain a core group of regulars as the surrounding community changes around it, a bar must have something special, even if that something is as simple as friendly service, cheap drinks, or a dazzling view. The following drinking establishments aren't necessarily the fanciest or even the most popular in their respective neighborhoods, but they're reliable and unfussy — and each with something unique to offer that's helped them stay in business over 40 years.

  • The concept of the coffee house dates back to the second half of the 15th century in Constantinople. Though Constantinople didn't survive, the coffee shop did, exported from what's now Istanbul through Europe and eventually to England, whose colonists brought the concept to the New World. The American coffee shop is as old as America itself, and the best cafes are — and always have been — more than just a place to sip coffee, but about showcasing the arts, cultivating a sense of community, and giving an outlet for ideas and expressions ranging from politics to poetry. For more great restaurant guides and dining tips, sign up for our free newsletters.

  • As beer drinkers, we take pride in our hometown brews. And while there's plenty of great local craft breweries, we also enjoy having the option of drinking something tasty but cheap found at the liquor or grocery store on the way home. They may not always be the highest quality, but they're still a point of pride for locals and perfect for occasions when all that's needed is something easy to sip. As an extra point of pride, some are from the oldest breweries in the country.

  • In 1873, there were more than 4,000 breweries in the United States. That number dropped to zero with the arrival of Prohibition in 1920, and although a handful survived the Volstead Act, there were fewer than 300 in the entire country for most of the 20th century. Today, the industry has bounced back — to more than 6,200 breweries, most of which are small and independent craft breweries with numbers that continue to climb dramatically each year. Still, if they were people, the oldest breweries in most states would hardly be old enough to buy a beer. Here are 20 that likely wouldn't have to show ID.Related:The Oldest Eateries in All 50 States

20 of the Oldest Breweries in America

A recent craft beer explosion means many U.S. breweries wouldn't even be old enough to drink — but then there are those dating back to the 1800s. From long-running classics like Yuengling to more recent favorites like Samuel Adams, many offer free tours and tastings and should all be added to your beer bucket list.

  • After a long day commuting in the Summer heat, the last thing I want to think about when I get home is doing anything too elaborate. While in the Winter I don't mind standing over my stove, cooking a big dinner, this time of year is all about simplicity - this goes for my drinks as well. Even though beer and wine are obviously staples in my house, sometimes my day isn't complete without a cocktail. Instead of spending too much of my precious evening trying to figure out how to make a delicious drink, I've streamlined my bar cart by making homemade honey lavender simple syrup. This syrup is super simple to make and even easier to use. The richness of the honey adds a depth of flavor that's superior to traditional simple syrups, and the delicate floral scent of lavender makes even the simplest of cocktails stand out. What's best about this simple syrup is that it works wonders in all kinds of beverages, not just cocktails. A simple splash into your morning latte will have you feeling extra fancy, even if you only got a couple hours of sleep. Here is a step-by-step guide to making your own syrup.

  • Starbucks has added yet another "pink drink" to the menu, but this time it's a Frappuccino. The new Serious Strawberry Frappuccino is what Starbucks is dubbing its first "magenta" Frappuccino, and the blended beverage is a sweet treat that strawberry fanatics will go crazy for. The coffee-free drink starts with a swirl of strawberry fruit puree and is mixed with the new version of Starbucks's Strawberries and Creme Frappuccino (a blend of ice, milk, and "strawberry infusion blend"), and it's finished with strawberry puree and vanilla whipped cream. Starting on Tuesday, June 5, the Serious Strawberry Frappuccino joins Starbucks's permanent menu in the US and Canada (in other words, it's not a limited-edition offering!). This exciting release comes not long after the launch of the Ultra Caramel and Triple Mocha Frappuccinos, which recently became the first permanent Frappuccino additions in more than a decade. This definitely calls for an afternoon Starbucks run!

  • Olive Garden Ros?? Details

Olive Garden's New Rosé Is Made in Italy - Pass a Bottle and the Breadsticks, Please!

Olive Garden has its own exclusive rosé that's hitting menus for summertime, and we just got another excuse to enjoy endless breadsticks. Beginning on May 29, Olive Garden menus will include Head to Head Rosé, which was created by siblings Giulia and Andrea Zingarelli of Tuscany's Rocca delle Macíe winery. The coral-pink wine is made from Sangiovese grapes (nice and sweet) grown in eastern Sicily, and it has "intense, complex red fruit aromas dominated by apple and cherry notes," according to Olive Garden. A bottle of red might be more commonly passed around the table at Italian dinners, but a refreshing glass of rosé next to a comforting plate of chicken fettuccine alfredo sounds pretty lovely. Given the fact that rosé everything is having a major moment, Olive Garden wanted to get in on the trend. "We wanted to launch our new wine in Summer because rosés are refreshing in hot weather," said Robyn Albert, director of beverage strategy at Olive Garden. A trip to Tuscany might not be in the books, but this will satisfy some of our cravings in the meantime!
